Recently in shoe news it was announced that athletic shoe giant Reebok would be moving to Boston’s Seaport District from its long-time home in Canton, Massachusetts. According to news reports, the company expects to make the move to a 220,000 square feet space, comprised of five floors, by fall of next year.
The new location will feature numerous studio spaces, a massive 30,000 sq. ft. gym, and even a boxing ring (along with a running track) designed for public use, around the new facility. President of Reebok, Matt O’Toole, said the company’s vision is to bring “The Home of Fitness” to the new Boston location, and that Reebok’s goal is to provide a healthy workplace environment to its 700 employees.
Also expected to be present at the new facility are professionals in physical therapy and massage, acupuncture, a dietician, personal trainers, and others who will help make the focus on wellness and fitness. A Reebok FitHub retail store will also be located at the new headquarters, along with a farm-to-table cafe.
O’Toole’s passion is bringing fitness and wellness to the entire community, not just employees. He said in a statement that the company’s mission is to get people moving. Boston Mayor, Martin J. Walsh, said in a statement he looks forward to Reebok’s presence in the city, and working with the company to ensure more active, healthy lifestyles for all Bostonians.
