Fall has arrived, and soon we’ll be getting out those warmer shoes and putting the summer styles away until next year. Many people have issues when it comes to storing shoes in a closet that might not be so spacious. If you’re one of the many who just toss them in the floor of the closet, we have a few tips to help you get organized – and preserve your shoes.
For many people, the floor and top shelf of a closet are where things get thrown and disorganized. With a little organization, you can make great use of all of your closet space, and easily find the footwear you’re looking for.
You could use shoe boxes that are labeled with what shoes are inside, but clear boxes or drawers are a better choice. Easily stackable, you can clearly see what pair of shoes are inside. Stacking the containers on a shelf above your clothes makes them easier to see; sometimes longer hanging clothes may make it difficult to see what’s on the floor.
You may also want to consider a shoe organizer that hangs over the closet door. This makes your shoes easy to access as soon as you open the door, as they’re all placed in pockets on the inside of the door where they’re out of sight when the closet door is closed.
Some organizers hang from a closet rod, so if you have space and don’t need the entire rod for your clothes, this may be a good option.
When storing your shoes whether in clear containers, boxes, or in stackable bins or drawers, be sure to put the ones you’ll wear most often this season within easy reach. What you don’t want to do is place those you’ll be wearing regularly highest on the stack, or behind other boxes where you can’t see them.
If you’d prefer to forego storing your shoes in the closet, there are lots of other things you can do as well. A shelf with lots of little cubby holes is ideal, and you can find them with doors that slide down for cover. You could also use a curtain or material that blends with the decor in the room attached to the shelf for cover – great not only for shoe storage, but adding a unique element to the room!
Clear storage totes slid under the bed are another way many who have lots of shoes keep them in good condition and out of sight.
Whether you have six pairs of shoes or 60, hopefully these suggestions will help you become more organized as you put the summer footwear away in favor of Fall’s latest trends.
