We all know someone who has sweaty, smelly shoes or feet at the end of the day – especially in warm weather, when feet tend to sweat worse. If you think your footwear smells disgusting, you can thank your feet! What to do? As wholesale shoe distributors, we have a few suggestions!
Put those stinky smellers in the freezer. What? You heard right – but of course be sure to put them in a large Ziploc bag first. The cold temperature will kill at least a good portion of the bacteria in your shoes, and is a great first step to eliminating odor.
Depending on what type of shoes you’re working on, a concoction of dish soap, hydrogen peroxide, and baking soda will eliminate the stink and take stains out as well. Works great on sneakers and canvas shoes! Use a little elbow grease, and enjoy footwear that’s fresh as a daisy.
Don a pair of socks. Sure, during warm months socks and shorts look geeky together, but there are lots of no-show socks so you really have no excuse for that stinky swamp-foot!
Machine wash and dry. When possible, toss your shoes in the washer for a good scrubbing, then dry in the dryer or sit outside in the warm sunshine to dry. This is best done AFTER you’ve cleaned with the baking soda concoction described above.
Have insoles in your shoes for comfort? Put in a fresh pair, and trash the dank, damp old ones. You and your family will be thankful.
Use one of the chemical spray shoe deodorizers if all else fails, or you want to add an extra layer of freshness after other cleaning methods.
Rubbing alcohol mixed with water helps kill odor-causing bacteria, so consider a quick spritz inside each shoe.
At The Jay Group Ltd., we know no one wants to face the embarrassment of stinky shoes and feet, but it’s a common problem. Hopefully the suggestions above will have your shoes smelling fresh as a daisy.
