On June 15, Adidas unveiled the AlphaBounce, the company’s newest running shoe. Adidas claims, because of the minimal materials used in making the AlphaBounce and less stitching, the wearer can enjoy a distraction-free workout.
Runners enjoy a responsive and “elastic” running experience due to the midsole technology used in creating the AlphaBounce; technology using EVA foam. EVA (ethylene and vinyl acetate) is a material often used in making flip-flops, and is a soft material that’s also extremely durable.
Adidas calls the upper “Forged Mesh”, and it consists of a single layer of material for movement freedom. The upper is also designed using a ribbed pattern said to provide expansion and support for the runner.
Senior Design Director for Adidas Global Running, George Robusti, said the company used motion capture technology to identify the areas of the foot that expand during a runner’s stride. Forged Mesh offers support in the areas of expansion with a single piece of material, giving runners a more vigorous experience.
News reports claim 2 Chainz wore the AlphaBounce to Game 5 of the 2016 NBA Finals, however they’re now available to the public for $100 a pair. The Forged Mesh upper has no seams, which makes it possible for the foot to move in all directions while maintaining support with the ribbed pattern.
